OnePlus Watch 3: the watch improves on an essential point

[Article updated on February 18, 2025 following the official launch of the OnePlus Watch 3.]

OnePlus' new smartwatch, the Watch 3, is coming to Europe and North America. The Chinese manufacturer is making the launch of its new smartwatch official, following the success of the OnePlus Watch 2. The brand intends to capitalize on the strengths of its series of high-end watches, by focusing on battery life, a weak point of smartwatches running Wear OS.

Already mentioned by OnePlus a few days ago, the OnePlus Watch 3 is being made official on February 18, 2025. The manufacturer is immediately tackling the weak point of smartwatches running Wear OS: battery life. Progress is being made with each version and the best students in this field do not hesitate to use subterfuges that are at least effective. Mobvoi offers two screens in the TicWatch Pro 5 and its multiple variations, while OnePlus prefers a hybrid solution with two operating systems.

The battery capacity of the OnePlus Watch 3 has been revised upwards to reach 631 mAh, compared to 500 mAh for the previous model. The future watch claims a battery life of 5 days (up to 120 hours) in smart mode and up to 16 days in energy saving mode. A fast charging function will also be available to provide a full day of endurance with 10 minutes of charging.

Improved battery, dual engine: everything for autonomy

These improvements are not only explained by the increase in battery capacity, but also by changes in internal components. Inside the watch, and to run the two OS, there are two different chips:

  • A “performance” chipset: Qualcomm Snapdragon W5
  • A new ultra-low power chipset: BES2800 MCU from BES Technology

Qualcomm's Snapdragon W5 is already present in the current Watch 2. It is used to run the watch's modern functions, namely the Wear OS operating system and Play Store applications. Alongside it, the BES2800 MCU chip replaces the BES2700BP to run RTOS and low-power tasks. This dual-engine architecture aims to provide an optimal balance to enjoy all the functions, without sacrificing autonomy.

In detail, the energy efficiency of the brand new BES2800 chipset has been improved thanks to the use of an advanced 6 nm FinFET manufacturing process. The watch also uses equipment called OnePlus Silicon NanoStack, as on the current OnePlus 13. In addition, the company mentions the presence of a screen with improved energy efficiency, an optimized antenna for better energy management and a complete optimization of WearOS.

Wear OS 5, improved sports tracking and new health functions

The watch also runs on Wear OS 5 and brings new health tracking options. On the Watch 3, there is a “60s Health Check” function which allows you to obtain a detailed health report in just 60 seconds. It includes seven health indicators, such as heart rate, electrocardiogram (ECG), blood oxygen level, mental well-being, wrist temperature, sleep quality and vascular age.

In addition, OnePlus introduces “360 Body and Mind” to help the user better understand their physical and mental well-being. The tool analyzes multidimensional data by looking at HRV (heart rate variability), resting heart rate, and activity intensity. On the sports side, a new dual-frequency GPS is expected to offer faster and more accurate tracking of outdoor activities.

OnePlus is betting on a classic design

For its new watch, OnePlus keeps the stainless steel case of the previous model. The Watch 3 adds a titanium alloy bezel and a 1.5-inch LTPO screen in 2D sapphire crystal, in a look inspired by classic watches. It will be available in two colors: Emerald Titanium and Obsidian Titanium. The watch has an IP68 rating, MIL-STD-810H certification and 5 ATM water resistance, not to mention its rotating crown.

OnePlus announces that the Watch 3 is coming to France at a price of 349 euros. It is available for pre-order and will officially hit the market on February 25.
