Adobe Firefly: Video creation by IA opens up to all (well, almost)

Adobe's generative AI, Firefly, expanded to video last October and the firm had multiplied demonstrations. The beginning of 2025 is the opportunity for the firm to take a new step by making its video generator accessible to all. The Firefly video model is making a place in the new Firefly web application, in a public beta version.

Adobe Firefly: AI opens the door to video creation for all

Adobe assures that the "new Firefly video model is the first "commercially safe" AI video generation model. It relies on several features, such as Generate a video (beta) to generate videos of approximately 90 seconds, from a text or an image, in 1080p. A 4K model will be "coming soon" for production work aimed at professionals.

The Firefly model is not really aimed at the general public, but at creative professionals, companies, brands or even agencies. It can use camera angles to control shots or create "professional quality" images from 3D sketches. A scene-to-image function (beta) is also available for creating images from 3D sketches and reference shapes. In addition, an audio and video translation tool for dialogues in different languages is present, with the possibility of working on voice, tone, cadence and acoustics. The new translation feature supports “over 20 languages”.

Finally, the new Firefly app integrates with Adobe Creative Cloud apps, including Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and Adobe Express. Present at a demo organized by Adobe, we were able to measure the strength of Firefly’s video model and discover already very convincing results. Obviously, this requires confirmation and pushes us to discover this beta video generation model for ourselves. But you'll have to dig deep to find out.

A subscription is required to generate videos

The arrival of this new web platform is accompanied by two new subscriptions for Adobe Firefly:

  • Standard: access to 2,000 video/audio credits per month, or up to 20 generations of five-second 1080p videos, starting at €11.08/month.
  • Pro: access to 7,000 video/audio credits per month, up to 70 generations of five-second 1080p videos, starting at €33.26/month.

Finally, a new Firefly Premium subscription plan will be offered for creative professionals who want to regularly generate video content and benefit from even greater audio and video capabilities. A highly anticipated version as competition is fierce in the generative video segment, with models such as OpenAI's Sora or Google's Veo.

A must-have for many creators, Adobe must now evolve with the emergence of AI. In addition to offering powerful tools, the firm must convince professionals that artificial intelligence is an asset and not a threat to the future of creators. With each announcement, Adobe mentions its desire to "act responsibly, in compliance with its principles that govern the ethics of AI.". It is specified that Firefly only trains on content for which Adobe has authorization to use, such as that which has fallen into the public domain and Adobe Stock content under license. The company also points out that it is a member of the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI) and is pushing for the adoption of Content Credentials, a digital "label of provenance".
