The CNIL looks at the ethics of artificial intelligence, the protection of minors and cybersecurity for 2025-2028

The CNIL has just released its strategic plan for the next four years. Focused on themes such as artificial intelligence, protection of minors, cybersecurity and everyday digital uses, this program is part of a global approach aimed at securing France's digital future.

The ethical integration of artificial intelligence

The organization makes a point of promoting ethical AI that respects individual rights. The president of the CNIL, Marie-Laure Denis, emphasizes the importance of legally framing the use of these technologies to avoid any infringement of individual freedoms and guarantee the transparency of practices.

The strategy is mainly based on the design of a clear and solid methodology. The idea is to better supervise and control AI systems in cooperation with other data protection authorities in Europe. The priorities also include monitoring the devices used by the State and local authorities, in particular cameras with smart functions that are increasingly integrated into public spaces.

Increased protection of minors in the digital world

With the omnipresence of digital technology in the lives of young people, the issue of their protection is becoming urgent. The second axis of the CNIL's strategic plan therefore aims to strengthen protective measures for minors. The topics covered include preventing cyberbullying, protecting children's privacy and combating exposure to inappropriate content.

This will involve increased collaboration with the educational ecosystem and families. The CNIL plans to increase its presence across the country to raise awareness of the risks involved and disseminate best practices. In this way, it hopes to create a safer digital environment for children and adolescents.

Enhanced security against cyber threats

Cybersecurity remains an essential priority in the current context where attacks are increasingly sophisticated and frequent. The CNIL intends to consolidate its efforts in securing computer and electronic systems, both for individuals and for public and private organizations.

In line with the new European texts, the CNIL aims to guarantee a harmonized application of the regulations in force. This includes continuing regular checks and audits to ensure the compliance and effectiveness of the protections put in place. It is not only a question of reactive protection but also proactive protection, in order to limit vulnerabilities as much as possible.

Mobile applications and digital identity: towards new rules of the game

Daily uses of digital technology are not left out of this new strategic plan. Two aspects are of particular interest to the CNIL: mobile applications and digital identity. With regard to mobile applications, the CNIL is continuing its action plan aimed at protecting users by ensuring that their privacy is respected.

The CNIL will closely monitor developments in this area, thus ensuring that these technological innovations benefit from a reliable and secure framework.
