Sony is adding a new headset to its arsenal. But unlike the PS VR2, the Xyn is not for the general public and has only a distant relationship with PlayStation. This “extended reality” headset will be used by creators to design objects and virtual worlds. It should facilitate manipulations in space and accelerate the development of games, films, and animation.
A solution for the creation of virtual worlds
According to Sony’s video, the wearer of the headset will be able to lift the visor when not in use, which will avoid having to remove it completely. The device integrates 4K screens for each eye. At the same time, the manufacturer also unveiled an application for Windows, Xyn Motion Studio, which will support the headset, but also up to 12 Mocopi sensors.
This is a real-time motion capture system developed by Sony, which works via Bluetooth with a smartphone or computer. The new software allows you to record movements and edit them. The group also unveiled a spatial video capture solution, which should transform any photo of an object into a photorealistic image.
These announcements made at CES 2025 are not new in themselves; Sony had already lifted a corner of the veil on the Xyn last year, during this same Las Vegas show. The company gave more details (but not too many) this time, and promised a launch in March. Unfortunately, we do not know the price of the headset.
