Google continues to improve the user experience with a new feature for Google Photos. Until now, the application displayed all saved images indiscriminately, including those from applications such as WhatsApp, Messenger or Slack. With the update currently rolling out, users can now filter this content and choose what they want to see in their gallery.
Greater control over the display of images in Google Photos
The new option, called “Show content from other apps”, is accessible from the drop-down menu of Google Photos. It allows you to exclude files deemed non-essential, such as screenshots, GIFs or memes sent via third-party applications, etc.
Users can enable the “Hide large items from other apps” option to have Google Photos automatically hide this type of content. For more precise control, the “Customize by app” option lets you choose, on an app-by-app basis, which files should be shown or hidden.
Before this update, Google Photos already offered options to change the grid layout or stack similar photos. This new setting enhances the customization possibilities by allowing for more efficient sorting of images.
The update is currently rolling out with version 7.14.0.720276279 of Google Photos. Users who already have access to this feature can find it in the application's settings menu.
For those who regularly receive useless images via discussion groups or emails, this option should make browsing more fluid by displaying only the photos that are actually useful. It remains to be seen whether this new feature will be extended to other sorting features in the future.
