The Summer Game Fest is well underway, but the most anticipated announcements have yet to be shared. The opening ceremony revealed a few surprises, followed by a few conferences dedicated to independent games. Now comes the moment that all seasoned gamers have been waiting for: the Xbox Games Showcase.
This year, Microsoft is showing off its usual studios, but also the recently purchased Bethesda and Activision Blizzard. The company therefore has quite a few announcements in stock, as well as franchises to put forward again after two difficult years. The presentation will therefore be a great showcase for the games coming this year and next, on Xbox consoles and more. Follow the announcements live with us from 7 p.m.!
The most anticipated games
Call of Duty Black Ops 6
The title made a first appearance at the very beginning of the Xbox conference, despite the live broadcast dedicated to it just after. The firm lifted the veil on the next Call of Duty opus. Black Ops 6 is the first in its franchise to be released under the aegis of Microsoft, so it is expected at the turn. Especially since it will be the first truly original game after the launch of the last two remakes.
In the first trailer, we see that the story takes place in the heart of the 90s, with Bill Clinton as President of the United States. Unsurprisingly, it revolves around top-secret missions, conspiracy theories, and explosive clashes. Obviously, the title will have a multiplayer mode and a zombie mode, developed by several Activision studios. The cherry on the cake is that it will be available from the day of its release, October 26, via the Game Pass catalog.
Doom: The Dark Ages
A few days before the conference, the games supposedly announced by Xbox were leaked. The next Doom game was among the list, and the players' predictions came true. Doom The Dark Ages showed its first gameplay footage, between mythology and firearms. The title is scheduled for the year 2025, so we will have to wait a little before learning more about its story.
Fable
Xbox really has some tricks up its sleeve. The studio is showing us the next Fable, a franchise that has a loyal community at its side. We see the character of Humphry, both charismatic and wacky, as well as a few other characters emphasizing the dimension of choice in the game. You shape your adventure as you see fit, but you always take part in great adventures. Too bad, the title will not have shown its (surely formidable) gameplay. We have a first release window set for 2025!
Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle
Bethesda has no room for error with this game. Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle is developed in collaboration with LucasFilm Games to allow fans to find themselves at the heart of the legendary adventure franchise. We got to see more of the first-person gameplay in this new trailer, which still divides players. Regardless, it seems that the narrative lives up to their expectations as it combines suspense, mystery and gumdrop action. The best part is that the studio shared a full cinematic sequence with us, which allows us to get a first opinion on the title, before its release later this year.
Gears of War 6
Fans of Gears of War have been waiting for this news since 2019, the year the fifth installment was released. Microsoft has made their dream come true by officially announcing Gears of War E-Day, the sequel to the legendary shooter that returns to the origins of the franchise. It features familiar characters such as Marcus and Dom. No gameplay footage has been shared yet, but the cinematic trailer is still promising for the game's visual ambiance.
Games that surprised us
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
This French game takes us to a Paris like we've never seen before. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a turn-based fantasy game, with an immersion that is unprecedented for its genre. The characters share epic battles against monsters from beyond the grave. The title will be available during the year 2025, and will be added to the Xbox Game Pass catalog. One more nugget to wait for!
South of Midnight
Exactly one year ago, Microsoft revealed South of Midnight to us via a short teaser. We knew that the story would take place in the heart of the Louisiana bayou, and that it would deal with fantastic themes. The trailer shared today shows us a sequence directly taken from the game, between cinematics, blah blah and gameplay. The first images are absolutely promising, and we love its graphic style. The title will be released in 2025.
Mixtape
If you liked Road 96, this next game is for you. It's not the same franchise, but Mixtape looks like a spiritual son. The indie game lets us follow 3 teenagers on a road trip, in search of their youth, and their first emotions. In addition to the road that awaits them, it is a true musical epic that awaits them during the journey. Laughter and tears will certainly be there in 2025 when it is released.
Life Is Strange: Double Exposure
The next Life Is Strange is here, and we are already excited about it. The franchise, formerly at Don’t Nod, is now at Deck Nine, but nothing has changed. We will find Max as the main character after having been in the very first game. This shot of nostalgia plunges us back into a universe where the young woman uses supernatural powers to save her friend.
