Tesla is going through a difficult period with a sharp drop in the stock market and calls for a boycott. Faced with this situation, Donald Trump announced that he intended to buy a vehicle from the brand. A gesture of support for Elon Musk... quite surprising for someone who doesn't even drive.
Tesla is under pressure. Elon Musk's company is facing a drop in sales in Europe, a drop in its stock market and a growing protest movement. Some owners of the brand's vehicles, who disagree with the CEO's positions, go so far as to hide the logo of their car or modify it to no longer be associated with the brand. In this tense context, President Donald Trump decided to publicly show his support.
On his social network Truth Social, Donald Trump announced that he was going to buy a Tesla to support Elon Musk. He criticizes the ongoing boycotts, which he considers an unfair attack on the CEO and his company. By sharing this statement, he encourages his supporters to: defend the brand, which remains a major player in the electric car market.

Donald Trump buys a Tesla even though he doesn't even drive
While this announcement has caused a reaction, one detail amuses many observers: Donald Trump hasn't driven for years. As former and current president, he is constantly accompanied by drivers and does not really need a personal vehicle. His purchase of Tesla therefore looks more like a symbolic gesture than a real adoption of electric vehicles. Elon Musk, who shared the latter's announcement on his own social network X, nevertheless welcomed this statement with enthusiasm.
While this support may appeal to part of the American public, it will not be enough to solve Tesla's problems. The brand is facing: a drop in sales in Europe, with a collapse of almost 50% at the start of 2025. In some countries such as France (-63.4%) or Spain (-75.4%), registrations have fallen sharply. This decline is partly explained by the growing competition from Chinese brands, which offer more affordable electric models.
In the United States, Tesla has already implemented several strategies to boost demand, such as low-rate financing offers. Despite this, the company remains in difficulty and is expected to record a decrease in deliveries in the first quarter of 2025. While Donald Trump's support may encourage some buyers to take an interest in the brand, it will not be enough to make up for the delay accumulated in other markets. The evolution of sales over the coming months will be decisive for the manufacturer's future.
