A YouTube bug forces the opening of shorts, here is how to correct it

YouTube is increasingly pushing its short videos, Shorts, by giving them pride of place in the mobile app. But a recently observed problem is disrupting the experience of some users: instead of landing on the home page, some see a Shorts automatically open as soon as the app launches.

A bug launches Shorts when YouTube starts

For some time now, several users have noticed that the YouTube app opens directly to Shorts if their last viewing concerned this video format. But lately, a more annoying problem has emerged: YouTube systematically launches on Shorts, regardless of what has been viewed previously.

Reddit users are reporting this bug on various Android smartphone models, including the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. When the app launches, it immediately displays a Shorts section, as if this section had replaced the home page. Fortunately, a simple return allows you to access the main screen.

How to fix the problem (temporarily)?

Despite the inconvenience caused, a few simple manipulations can work around this problem. Closing or forcing the application to stop is not enough, but resetting the application data seems effective. To do this, you must:

  1. Go to Settings > Applications > YouTube
  2. Select Storage & Cache
  3. Tap Clear Data

However, if you reopen Shorts, the problem reappears... Another solution is to uninstall the app updates via the Play Store, but this method is far from the most practical. For now, there is no information confirming whether the bug also affects the iOS version of the app. Don't hesitate to tell us in the comments if you've encountered it.
