Apple is reportedly working on integrating a new feature into its AirPods headphones. Nothing new, however, since it has been present for years in Google's Pixel Buds.

Apple AirPods could catch up with Google delay with the addition of this function

It's been a long time since our connected headphones were only used for Listening to music or the latest episode of our favorite podcast. Answering a call without touching your smartphone is a possibility these accessories have long offered, and it's far from the only one. The advantage of sophisticated models like Apple's AirPods is that software updates are generally enough to implement new features.

The brand with the bitten apple is reportedly working on a future addition, according to sources close to the company. In this case, nothing that will revolutionize our use of headphones since it is something that we have found for years in the equivalent of Apple's direct competitor, namely Google's Pixel Buds. Still, it will make life easier for AirPods owners when traveling, especially since it involves instant translation of foreign languages.

AirPods headphones will soon gain an option that has long been available from Google

The principle is as follows: if the headphones detect that someone is speaking to you in Spanish (or another language), your iPhone will start translating what the person is saying and then transmit the result to the AirPods. And when you respond in French, the mobile will translate into Spanish and pronounce everything. Note that the feature will be linked to iOS 19, the next update to Apple's operating system. You will therefore need an iPhone compatible with iOS 19.

The advantage is that you won't have to buy new AirPods to take advantage of instant translation. It's still unclear how Apple intends to proceed, whether to deploy the update at the same time as iOS 19 or wait for another time. Let's hope the company manages to fix the latency and inaccuracy issues that many users of the feature have reported on earbuds that already have it.
