The next game in the Silent Hill series is finally revealed in a harrowing video. The opportunity to discover what awaits us with Silent Hill f, an opus plunging us into Japan in the 60s.
We had to wait years, but this time, it's finally here: the Silent Hill license is back in the spotlight. The saga that began in 1999 overshadowed Resident Evil before slowly falling into oblivion until the remake of Silent Hill 2 in 2024. This will be an opportunity for many players to discover or rediscover the series' unique oppressive atmosphere, and to motivate publishers to continue the momentum. Among the planned titles is the new opus Silent Hill f.
We radically change the setting by leaving the fictional American city that gives its name to the game. Head to 1960s Japan in the small, isolated town of Ebisugaoka. Usually peaceful, it is affected by a mysterious fog that transforms it into a nightmare from which there is no escape. The teenager Hinako Shimizu, whom we play, will have to understand what is happening and, above all, survive the hell unfolding around her.
The first trailer for Silent Hill f gives way to horror
Konami treats us to a video of about 3 minutes that sets the scene. We notice that the shift to the parallel world is manifested here by the appearance of red flowers with a beautiful effect, contrasting with the previous installments where gray largely dominates. For the moment, the story is very cryptic. At most, we are told of “doubt, regret and inevitable choices“. The same goes for the gameplay, which is absent from the trailer. Hinako brandishes a metal pipe at one point, suggesting that she will at least have this means to fight.
The game's story is written by Ryukishi07, a famous author behind the psychological horror visual novels "When They Cry", while the studio Neobards Entertainment is in charge of development. He notably worked on the Resident Evil 3 remake in 2020. Akira Yamaoka, historic composer of the Silent Hill franchise, returns to the delight of fans and our ears. The Silent Hill f Steam page is live, but no release date has been announced. The game will also be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
