This is anxiety-provoking news, but necessary according to the government. To anticipate the risks of political conflicts, natural disasters, new health crises, or targeted attacks, the French government plans to send all French citizens an emergency survival booklet. Following the Red Cross first aid kit, the emergency system aims to become widespread in France, in the form of a twenty-page manual detailing the steps to take. follow to ensure their protection and survival in the event of a crisis. According to information from Europe 1, this emergency manual should detail all the “good actions to take in the event of an imminent threat in France“.
While it is divided into three distinct parts, the government survival manual mainly focuses on individual initiative: that of putting together a survival kit, essential for staying self-sufficient for a few days in the event of a crisis. Relatively basic, but capable of saving lives in an emergency situation, we take a look at its contents.
What does the survival kit contain?
- 6 liters of bottled water per person
- About ten cans of food
- Batteries, a flashlight, a charger
- A first aid kit with paracetamol, compresses and saline solution, as well as your usual treatment
- Your identity papers (originals and copies)
Anticipating potential crises
About twenty pages long, the government survival guide is divided into three distinct parts. The first aims to train the French in the first steps of protection, by raising awareness among the population about the concept of solidarity. It will aim not only to protect themselves, but also to protect vulnerable people, such as children, neighbors... All this practical advice that can make a difference on the ground.
The second part of the booklet will be devoted to the actions to adopt in the event of a direct threat. The chapter will provide a reminder of the emergency numbers and detail the procedure to follow depending on the type of crisis. This will include sealing openings and knowing the emergency radio frequencies. Inspired by the Swedish model, this survival guide for a major crisis should simply be titled "Crisis Instruction Manual." It's hard to be more explicit.
