Clearly Activision and Microsoft are not ready to abandon the previous generation (PS4 and Xbox One). While the first rumors and rumors are starting to emerge around the PS6 and Xbox Prime, it seems that Microsoft plans to release more games on the previous generation in 2025.
According to the very serious media CharlieIntel (with more than 5.2 million subscribers on Twitter/X), specialized in in the news, especially on Call of Duty, the next installment in the Activision series (which should arrive in November 2025) is expected on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC... as well as on PS4 and Xbox One.
Call of Duty, still on PS4 and Xbox One
It was through social networks that CharlieIntel confirmed that apparently, the next installment of Call of Duty in 2025, which should be a direct sequel to Black Ops II (from 2012), would also be expected on previous generation consoles, namely the PS4 and Xbox One which will celebrate their 12th anniversary in November.
As the tweet points out, making the decision to stick with the previous generation is necessarily problematic, since it will necessarily restrict the possibilities and review lowering the ambition of the PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X versions. In addition, it will also limit Warzone, in many aspects such as the size of the map.
This decision would therefore not really be in the interest of players and fans, but rather in the financial interest. With around 105 million PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on the market, and no less than 175 million PS4 and Xbox One sold in today, this allows to reach many more players and thus, generate much more money.
As a reminder, the first rumors suggest that the next generation of Xbox, with Xbox Prime, could arrive in November 2026 with a new Call of Duty as a launch game. If this rumor turns out to be true, it would mean that there would have been no entirely next-gen Call of Duty game on the PS5/Xbox Series X/S generation.
