In a recently published corporate report, Michal Nowakowski, CEO of CD Projekt RED, which is responsible for The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, among others, stated that he is committed to pursuing a path that is somewhat contrary to current trends in the video game industry. The Polish studio clearly has no intention of changing course anytime soon, and may even become even more ambitious in the path it has set for itself, much to the delight of its fans.
CD Projekt RED will continue to serve us games like The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077
More and more, we notice that purely single-player games like The Witcher 3 or Cyberpunk 2077 from CD Projekt RED are no longer as popular in the video game industry. You have probably noticed this for a few years now: many large groups are spending lavishly to try to release THE game-service that will bring them big. Unfortunately, huge successes like Fortnite are far from easy to replicate. Sony and Warner Bros. have had very bitter experience of this with monstrous flops such as Concord or Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Going against the grain, some studios are resisting the siren song of service games and preferring to continue offering single-player games with a strong narrative component.
In a truly colossal corporate report of around a hundred pages, CD Projekt RED CEO Michal Nowakoski confirmed that such a commitment to single-player games will not change anytime soon for the Polish studio. He firmly believes that "cutting-edge single-player games aren't going anywhere," and that they can be just as successful as service games supported over the long term. Given the titles currently in production at CD Projekt RED, it's clear that their desire is clear. A sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is notably in development, and a highly anticipated The Witcher 4 starring Ciri is expected to arrive in 2027.
It should be noted that the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel could include, to some extent, a multiplayer component. But CD Projekt RED would consider this as a bonus, and not the very heart of its future productions. which should in any case reassure fans of single-player experiences as strong as the Polish studio's creations.
