After several user complaints about slow media transfers and poor quality files on Google Messages, the American giant has rolled out an update to improve the reception of files sent via RCS. A fix that should resolve most of the problems mentioned, but perhaps not all.
Slowness and poor quality files reported on Google Messages
In recent weeks, Google Messages users have reported difficulties send or receive media. In fact, some photos and videos take an abnormally long time to display. Some files are pixelated or even fail to load completely. These problems affect discussions using the RCS protocol, which is supposed to offer a better experience and higher quality media compared to traditional SMS and MMS.
Google quickly recognized the technical problems and acted relatively quickly by announcing a series of changes to through a message published on its official support. The company stated that it had identified the causes of these slowdowns and had deployed a patch intended to improve the reception of the files in question.
Adjustments still needed
While the recently deployed update should improve the fluidity of file sharing on Google Messages, Google admits that some problems may still remain. The company therefore encourages users to report any persistent malfunctions in order to further refine the experience and offer further fixes if necessary.
In seeking to position itself as an alternative to WhatsApp or Messenger, the Messages application is closely followed by Google, which is constantly seeking to improve it. The company is working, for example, on the possibility of canceling a message. Google Messages also recently offered a new way to display who has read your messages.
