It's a cold shower for Tesla in 2025, with sales figures down more than 45% in Europe in February, including 44% in France. At the beginning of the year, France was making the American manufacturer pay dearly with a dazzling loss of interest, while registrations fell by 63%. Unfortunately, as a logical consequence, the used market should start to suffer, as it already has This is the case in the United States, with Model 3s selling for under $30,000, and even $15,000 with good mileage.
Competition is increasing, and the American brand's image has taken a big hit this year in Europe, since its boss Elon Musk began working in the new Donald Trump administration in Washington. But that's not all. Tesla also has to deal with an unstable market, the need to launch a model around €25,000, and to replace others like the Model Y. By moving from one generation to another, Tesla's flagship SUV in Europe risks undermining the market of the used car market, by turning the gaze of those interested, preferring to wait for the arrival of the new generation.
In addition to the arrival of new models and a drop in sales of new cars, Tesla could be forced to lower its prices to maintain its level of competitiveness in the face of growing competition. But on this point too, the used car market should suffer.
A snowball effect? Yes, but used Tesla sales are increasing
So obviously, seeing prices drop, potential buyers will also try to wait for the best time to buy. And the drop could therefore worsen, through a snowball effect. The same goes for sellers, who might prefer to sell their model as soon as possible to avoid losing too much in the future. Supply would only increase, and prices could drop even further. On the La Centrale website, most Model 3s are currently priced under €30,000, while the Model Y is currently priced between €30,000 and €40,000.
Meanwhile, in the first two months of the year, some saw a real opportunity to buy a used Tesla at a lower price than would otherwise be the case in this media, political, and industrial storm. According to figures from NGC-Data, published by Caradisiac at the beginning of March, used Model 3 registrations soared by 72.58%, ranking third among the most purchased used cars in France between January and February (2,083 units). The Model Y, ranked seventh, also soared by 119.41%.
Will we see the price of used Teslas continue to will demand continue to soar, to counterbalance the cold shower?
