Elements spotted in an internal beta version suggest that Google is preparing a major update to its Google TV app. This facelift would involve a change of interface, a more practical search and a new way to discover recently added or popular content.
A modernized interface with blue tones
The most visible change would concern the visual aspect of the Google TV application. The current dark gray could be replaced by a brighter blue, already used in the redesign of the Play Store. This new shade would be associated with a deeper black background and should have an effect on OLED screens. This should make the application more pleasant to use by improving its readability. and modernizing its design.
Another change currently being tested: the search page could be enriched with a history of your recent queries. A simple, yet effective improvement that would make it easy to find content without having to re-enter it.
A new tab to track new features
The code for this beta version also mentions a new feature called "Hot and New Tab." This tab, which is still inactive, could allow users to quickly discover recently published or "trending" content on the platform. Google could test several options before deciding whether or not to deploy them.
If it were to see the light of day, this section would become an interesting entry point for those who want to quickly access new features, without having to dig through the different menus. After the Android 14 update of the Chromecast with Google TV, this work on the interface confirms the company's desire to improve its TV interface, to better highlight its services and those of its partners.
