A little music or a podcast helps pass the time pleasantly. Inevitably, sometimes intensive use of this type of device has an impact on their condition. As time goes by, you notice that you have to turn the volume up higher than before to hear properly. And sometimes, unwanted noises are triggered.

Is your hearing declining? In the vast majority of cases, it has nothing to do with it, fortunately. These kinds of symptoms are a sign, that of cleaning your earphones which, over time, have accumulated too much dirt: earwax, dust, etc.

Generally, you think of wiping the tips with a cloth or something else, but depending on the model, this is not the priority. With Google's Pixel Buds 2, for example, the bulk of the cleaning is done elsewhere.

Here's what you need to clean your Google Pixel Buds Pro 2

These earphones have a small grille on the back. Visible in the drawing below, it is easily forgotten and yet, its obstruction can greatly affect the sound quality. It is therefore necessary to take care of it, but not just any old way.

The procedure for properly cleaning this part of the Pixel Buds Pro 2 is provided by Google, so you can follow it without risk. First, get this:

  • Micellar water, found in supermarkets. It's usually in the same place as your makeup.
  • An ultra-soft toothbrush, or something similar. The important thing is that the bristles are very soft so as not to damage the device.
  • Absorbent paper such as paper towels.

The steps to follow to properly clean your Pixel Buds Pro 2 earphones

Now that you have what you need, it's time to get down to business:

  1. Pour tap water into one container and micellar water into another.
  2. Dip the toothbrush into the micellar water and stir well to distribute it over all the bristles.
  3. Hold the earphone in one hand and with the other, run the toothbrush over the grille in circular motions for 15 seconds.
  4. Use the paper towel to dry the grille.
  5. Repeat steps 2 and 3 two more times (3 times in all).
  6. Rinse the toothbrush by first dipping it in the micellar water, then in the container containing tap water. Again, stir well to get rid of all the dirt collected by the brush.
  7. Run the toothbrush again in circular motions on the grid, still for about fifteen seconds.
  8. Let your Pixel Buds Pro 2 air dry for at least 2 hours. Do not place them in the sun to speed up the process as this may damage them. After 2 hours, use a paper towel to remove any water residue.

Do not use cotton swabs or similar utensils instead of the toothbrush. They could deposit cotton fibers in the grid, or even push the dirt already present further into the earbud and complicate cleaning. Of course, don't clean the Pixel Buds Pro 2 while they're charging. How often you should do this will depend on your environment, but consider that once every 3 months is a good starting point.
