Samsung shows a concept of Folding Nintendo Switch

What if Samsung had already found the right idea for the Switch 3? A Switch not only with an OLED screen, but a foldable one to boot!

As a reminder, the Switch 2, which will be presented on April 2, 2025 during a live broadcast, must already have some fans. They criticize it for being too close to its predecessor. In addition, according to rumors, Nintendo's future console should integrate an LCD screen.

A simple proof of concept

At MWC 2025, Samsung Display presented a concept of a Switch-style console, but foldable. To be more precise, Samsung is only blowing the idea to its possible partners, such as Valve, which integrates Samsung screens into its Steam Deck OLED. Their concept is in reality only a screen broadcasting a video, around which has been placed a plastic shell evoking the idea of a console.

The Korean giant has still taken the trouble to integrate a hinge, fake joysticks and fake buttons. Samsung Display has even thought of adding holes for the joysticks so that the device can close completely. The screen in question, which we saw, was based on the same technology as the Galaxy Z Fold 6, but with a different ratio, closer to the traditional 16/9.

More disadvantages than disadvantages, no doubt

What would be the point of a folding console apart from the wow effect? Apart from possible greater portability, we see above all a lot of difficulties if a manufacturer wants to obtain a viable product. The smartphone has proven it, if you add a hinge to a smartphone, everything becomes complicated. The product loses reliability, the battery is cut into several parts, the internal components have less space. Since portable consoles need a good energy/performance ratio, this seems more like a headache than anything else for now. At least Samsung is blowing the idea to its possible future customers.
