The Alien series: Earth finally shows what it is capable of

A year after Romulus, the Alien saga is about to make headlines again. Alongside the possible continuation of Rain's adventures in front of Fede Alvarez's camera, the brand imagined by Ridley Scott in the late 70s is getting a series on Disney+ via the Star catalog in France. FX and Hulu are teaming up for this long-term project. Since 2019, Ridley Scott has been working behind the scenes with Noah Hawley on Alien: Earth. It was quickly clarified that the story will take us before the events of the 1979 film, telling the story of the first encounter of the human species with the Xenomorphs.

The creator of the excellent Legion and Fargo has his work cut out for him, he must restore the reputation of the horror saga, which has experienced some disappointments over the years. Hulu has also understood that it would have to prove itself, with exclusive images multiplying as summer approaches. A new sequence has just been shared, enough to reassure skeptics.

The saga has not calmed down now that it is evolving under Mickey's control. It is therefore a very frightening execution that is immortalized. We see a certain Morrow, a member of the crew of the commercial vessel USCSS Maginot. He was on board when it crashed on Earth in 2120. This crash will also be the starting point of the series.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind

The sequence, although short, encapsulates the cruelty inherent in the saga since its beginnings. Morrow seems to communicate with his superiors and formalize the imminent arrival of the ship on Earth, and therefore of the Xenomorphs. But first, he condemns a teammate to death by not opening the airlock door for her. Who is he communicating with? Why bring the Xenomorphs to Earth? These are all questions that the series will address throughout its first season. The character Babou Ceesay, however, should not be central.

Indeed, it is Sydney Chandler who will be the main actress of this adventure. She plays Wendy, a metahuman who has the mind of a child and the body of an adult. She will be part of the group that will explore the bowels of the ship that crashed on Earth. Chandler will play opposite Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant and Eddie Davis. Kit Young (Shadow and Bone) and Lily Newmark (Sex Education) are also among the actors and actresses recruited for this production.

This summer on Disney+

Behind the scenes, Noah Hawley enlists Bobak Esfarjani to write the screenplay. Ridley Scott is executive producing while Dana Gonzales will direct. The original music will be composed by Jeff Russo. Umbrella Academy owes its themes to him, as does the series. ... Emoji';">Fargo.

Besides this killing, we can note that Noah Hawley has chosen to reconnect with the aesthetic of the first films. The control room adopts a 70's look, far from the standards of the latest films including Alien: Covenant and Alien: Prometheus. It remains to be seen whether the saga will succeed in thrilling fans and whether its availability on Disney+ will allow the series to conquer a new audience.
