The Copilot AI can control your Android smartphone from a Windows PC, here is what you can ask it

Around the summer of 2024, Microsoft added the ability to control your Android smartphone directly from the web interface of Copilot, its in-house AI. Then this feature disappeared without making a fuss. But it was only to come back in an even more practical form since it is now integrated into the Copilot app on Windows 11.

To take advantage of this, your PC and Android phone must first be linked together via the Connected Mobile app. Make sure you use the same Microsoft account on it as on the PC. Then, in the Copilot app on the computer, go to your profile settings and enable Connect with phone. Once linked, you can make different types of requests in natural language.

Copilot now controls your Android phone directly from Windows

Here are some examples of what you can ask Copilot to trigger the action on your smartphone:

  • Check your messages: “Give me the messages I haven't read yet today“, “Did [contact name] write to me this morning?“, “Give me the contact details of [contact name]”.
  • Send messages: “Send a message to [contact name] to ask if they have any ideas for X's birthday“.
  • Set timers: “Set a 12-minute timer for cooking pasta“.
  • Set an alarm: “Set an alarm for 8 a.m. for next Tuesday“.
  • Search for a place or business: “Find the nearest men's clothing store to me that's open right now“.

If you have a Samsung phone running Android 14 or later, you can benefit from bonus features like requesting a route start on Google Maps or cancelling already set alarms/reminders. scheduled as long as you give them a name (“alarm clock“, “pasta timer“…).

Note that the feature is still being rolled out to compatible machines and that the results can still be improved. The Microsoft's dedicated page states that it will be made "generally available by the end of February 2025," but in fact, this is not yet the case. Be sure to check back regularly for updates. Update is available for Copilot and Connected Mobile in the Microsoft Store.
