In February 2020, Dan Houser announced his departure from Rockstar Games, a company he co-founded with his brother, Sam Houser, alongside friends such as Terry Donovan, Jamie King and Gary Foreman. Just a year after his departure, Dan Houser founded Absurd Ventures in Video Games in the United Kingdom. The studio was officially announced in June 2023 under the name Absurd Ventures.
The idea was to offer a real entertainment studio, not a video game studio. Absurd Ventures then produced its first projects with the audio fiction A Better Paradise, available since June 2024 and featuring the star of the series The Walking Dead: Andrew Lincoln (Rick).
Since then, the studio has confirmed working on several projects, including a graphic novel (American Caper, expected in 2025), and the AbsurdAVerse, a kind of multiverse that will bring together all the studio's creations, universes and characters. Recently, the studio confirmed working on a video game, which would be a major open-world action game that is quite ambitious. According to the media Absurd V Mag, which obtained its information directly from the studio, Absurd Ventures is even the work on two different video games.
Absurd Ventures: two video games in the works
In late January, Absurd Ventures announced its AbsurdAVerse and confirmed that it was working on a comedic action-adventure video game set in the AbsurdAverse universe. A few days ago, the studio announced that its audio fiction, A Better Paradise, would be getting a a novel adaptation, this fall, as well as a TV series and a video game.
Many fans who closely follow Dan Houser's projects were then confused, to know if the action-adventure comedy video game announced a few weeks earlier was or was not the adaptation of A Better Paradise.
We now know that it is not, and that the studio Absurd Ventures is indeed working on two different video games. This is what has indeed been confirmed to the specialist media Absurd V Mag.
The teams of Dan Houser and Lazlow Jones, producer of the GTA series for nearly 20 years at Rockstar Games, would therefore be preparing two different video games. A first one that would take place in the universe of A Better Paradise (but which would not necessarily be an adaptation of the audio fiction). And a second one, which would feature new characters and a new story, linked to AbsurdAVerse.
Still according to Absurd V Mag’, the studio would currently have eight projects in progress, with two video games, two novels, a TV series, an audio fiction (season 2 of A Better Paradise) and at least two animated projects. This promises to be a good thing for the future!
