The Windows 11 Photos Application will fill up on new features

The Windows 11 Photos Application will fill up on new features

The Photos app natively installed on Windows 11 is about to undergo a real upheaval. Microsoft, which plans to boost its photo library with artificial intelligence, will introduce new AI tools within its Photos app, but also directly in the File Explorer of its operating system. New features that the Redmond company is currently testing with members of its Insider program on both Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Photos will be able to search the text in your photos on the web

You will soon be able to extract the text displayed on your photos and much more. Microsoft will integrate an optical character recognition (OCR) module into Photos that will support "more than 160 languages." Microsoft's image viewer will integrate a dedicated OCR button that you can click to start analyzing the text in your images. The detected text will then be highlighted, and you can select it to copy it directly to the clipboard for further use. Above all, this OCR module will allow you to directly search the text extracted from your images on the web.

File Explorer will access AI-powered tools

Photos isn't the only Windows application to benefit from new features powered by artificial intelligence. Microsoft also plans to integrate several AI tools into Windows File Explorer. The OS's nerve center will now include new shortcuts that will give you "direct access to AI editing and visual search without having to open the Photos app."

Concretely, when you display an image in File Explorer, you will be able to directly access the Photos editor, but also Microsoft Designer or Bing's visual search from the right-click context menu. You will even be able to access the module allowing you to delete unwanted elements present in your photos.

Microsoft will integrate its Copilot into Photos

To top it all off, Microsoft plans to integrate its Copilot directly into its Photos application. The button to wake up the AI assistant will be grafted directly in the app's toolbar. The arrival of Copilot in Photos will allow you to send your images directly to the AI for editing advice. Microsoft's AI assistant will also show you "interesting details" on your image, but also to give you recommendations on the framing of your image.
