Twitch also increases the price of his subscription

Your subscriptions are increasing and there is nothing you can do to stop them. The latest to experience a price increase is Spotify, citing the tax on music streaming services as justification. But the world of video games is also affected. Although price increases are rarer, they always hurt the wallet. Today, it is Twitch that announces that its cheapest subscription will review its prices.

In an email sent to influencers, but also to viewers, Amazon informs all Twitch users that the level 1 subscription is increasing its monthly price. It thus goes from 3.99 euros to 4.99 euros. The “sub” therefore becomes a little less affordable than before. If the difference is only one euro per month, it is 12 euros per year, and increases if you subscribe to several content creators. This decision was made for 30 different countries, including France.

In the email, Amazon does not spend ten lines justifying its approach and only states that it is motivated by “rising costs and fluctuations in local currencies“. A complex formula to designate the phenomenon of inflation that continues to progress. However, Twitch will not see all its subscriptions increase. Level 2 and 3 subs will remain at an unchanged price, that is to say 7.99 euros and 19.99 euros per month respectively… for the moment. According to the company's statements, Amazon reserves the right to change its mind at any time.

One last month before the sentence

It is worth clarifying that “these updates only apply to subscriptions purchased on the web on a computer, or on the web on mobile.” There is no mention of the mobile application, through which subscriptions can also be purchased. Could this be a loophole to continue paying the old price instead of the new one? We will have the answer in a few weeks since the new rates should arrive by July 11th.

This news is on the one hand quite negative for viewers, and on the other a (minimal) opportunity for content creators. The percentage paid to the streamer on the price of a subscription remains the same, so this price increase also allows him to increase his income. Of course, on a case-by-case basis, this increase is negligible when you count the commission kept by Twitch, but with a large subscriber base, the numbers can quickly rise.
