The Awesome Games Done Quick started this January 3rd and has already generated two world records. Games Done Quick is a charity event held every winter and summer, during which streamers speedrun on several video games that lend themselves well to the concept, such as Sonic games. During the speedrun session on these games, two streamers, Flying Fox and Zaxon96, achieved two consecutive world records, the first time this has happened at this event.
First, Flying Fox tried her hand at the Android version of Sonic 1. After her run, she doesn't realize right away that she has broken the world record. In fact, she bases her performance time on real-life time, which is 20 minutes and 03 seconds. In-game time, on the other hand, does not take into account several elements, such as game loading times or score display. This is the time on which the competition is based and its result therefore goes from 20 minutes to 13 minutes and 19 seconds. She only realizes her feat when she receives a comment informing her of her actual playing time.
Just after the Flying Fox race, it's Zaxon96's turn to try his hand at the game Sonic 3: AIR. The second record holder, meanwhile, was much more aware of his success. He actually used a glitch technique that consists of validating a stage by replaying the one he just did. By doing it 3 times, he then managed to beat the world record on this game. He completed the course in 34 minutes and 24 seconds, beating the previous world record held by... himself! Indeed, Zaxon96 already held this title with a time of 37 minutes and 12 seconds. But that doesn't take anything away from... his feat and he becomes the second consecutive record holder of the day with the streamer Flying Fox.
