What to expect from the Xbox conference this week?

It's been over a week since Xbox announced its first presentation of the year. It's a Developer Direct, a very special conference format that allows the company to immerse us in the development of some highly anticipated titles from its own studios. The date is set, players just have to show up on January 23 at 7 p.m. to learn more about some gems. Fortunately, the program is already known, at least for part of it. What surprises does Xbox have in store for us during its live stream?

3 out of 4 games

When the company announced its conference, it gave us the names of the games that would be affected by the announcements. We will be able to see new images of DOOM: The Dark Ages, South of Midnight and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Most of these games are expected this year on consoles and PC. However, there is still one mystery to be cleared up.

Xbox is keeping the surprise of the last title presented. This means that it is certainly a secret, large-scale project. Let's not forget that last year's Developer Direct revealed the existence of Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle, which was finally released in the fall of 2024. This could therefore be the next AAA that the company has up its sleeve. But Internet users have a different opinion.

According to information from NateDrake, a famous video game leaker, Xbox could announce the availability of Final Fantasy 7 on its platform. Until now, the two installments of the remake saga have only been offered to PS5 players exclusively. console, as well as on PC. The announcement during this format would be strange, but according to the leaker, the first game could arrive as early as 2025 on Xbox, and the second in 2026. He recently took part in the various leaks around the Nintendo Switch 2 and proposed some theories that are perfectly credible so far.

For our part, we are rather hoping for the announcement of a new game, or even to have news of certain games that have fallen into oblivion. We are thinking in particular of OD, the big exclusive developed by Hideo Kojima for Xbox and PC players. The horror title is still a mystery to the industry, but its presentation had caused a stir several months ago. Will it make its return during the Developer Direct?

What you won't see

The Developer Direct, due to its format, excludes some favorite topics. For example, there will be no mention of the hardware part or the Xbox Game Pass. On the other hand, players will be able to enjoy interviews and developer commentaries for each game present.
