Xbox Series X/S consoles sales at the lowest

Xbox Series X/S consoles sales at the lowest

The end of 2024 was not the same for Microsoft and Sony. While we learned that PS5 sales continued to soar (exceeding the 65 million consoles sold mark) and with a PS5 Pro which, against all expectations, sold very well despite its rather staggering price. Unfortunately, on Microsoft's side, the time was a little less for celebration with a difficult end of the year including a month of November with extremely low sales, despite the famous Black Friday.

Xbox Series no longer exceeds one million sales

It is in a recent report from GameRant that we have just learned that the Xbox Series X/S have not managed to sell at more than a million copies during the month of November 2024. A month that is generally quite intense due to the very many promotions on the sidelines of Black Friday.

During this same period, Nintendo managed to sell no less than 1.7 million Switches that are reaching the end of their life. Unsurprisingly, Sony dominates the period with no less than 4.1 million PS5s. For its part, Microsoft and the Xbox Series X/S reach only and with difficulty 767,118 consoles sold. Let us specify all the same that these figures are estimates given that Microsoft never officially communicates its data.

In total, since their launch in November 2020, the PS5 (Standard and Slim) have sold more than 65.5 million copies. For their part, the Xbox Series X/S have only just passed the 31.2 million unit mark. The Switch, launched in March 2017, has exceeded 146 million consoles sold and is heading straight for the supreme title, still outstripped by the PS2 and its 160 million consoles.

The situation is quite critical on the Microsoft, which, more than ever, seems to be moving towards a new strategy, betting everything on Cloud Gaming and its famous Xbox Game Pass. A few days ago, at CES 2025 in Las Vegas, Microsoft and LG announced that the Game Pass would soon be arriving on the manufacturer's Smart TVs, allowing access to the entire catalog without having to buy consoles.

It would therefore seem that the future of video games is not on consoles for Microsoft. However, according to recent rumors, the American firm could launch the new generation of machines as early as 2026 with the Xbox Prime which would already be in the pipeline.
