The famous Win+C keyboard shortcut is about to return to Windows 11. And the good news is that it should be customizable by the user.
Keyboard shortcuts are essential for boosting your productivity on Windows. You've probably noticed if you use it, but Microsoft removed Win+C a little less than a year ago. This shortcut allowed you to quickly open the Copilot application. Before that, it was used to launch Microsoft Teams. And even before that, it allowed you to invoke Cortana. Now, it is not assigned to any action, the editor favoring the dedicated Copilot key that it imposed (or strongly recommended) to keyboard manufacturers.
It would seem that user interest in this Copilot key is not the strongest. And according to PhantomOfEarth, always very quick to spot new features coming to Windows, Microsoft is preparing to make it more useful, not forgetting the old Win+C shortcut that was abandoned for many months.
The Win+C keyboard shortcut gets the same treatment as the Copilot key
He explains that like the Copilot key, the Win+C keyboard shortcut will be able to be customized in Windows 11 settings. “Choose what happens when you press the Copilot key or the Windows + C combination”, Microsoft describes. So not only is the Win+C shortcut about to make a comeback, but it will also be much more useful for those who don't care to launch Copilot.
It is not specified It's unclear how all this will work, but a priori, you should be able to configure the Win+C shortcut (and the Copilot key if your keyboard has one, therefore) to open the application of your choice installed on your PC. It should also be possible to choose another action, such as displaying a context menu. In any case, this is what was announced for the customization of the Copilot key, and we don't see why the Win+C keyboard shortcut would be deprived of it.
We should see this new functionality at work soon in a new version of Windows 11. Insider members will, as always, be served first, while waiting for an update stable update for all users.
Microsoft is experimenting with bringing back the Windows key + C keyboard shortcut. It will do the same action as the Copilot key, so can be customized in Settings.
