On the night of December 12-13, the video games of 2024 will be honored at the 10th Game Awards ceremony. The event organized by Geoff Keighley has become a sort of winter E3 and gamers are eagerly awaiting the surprise announcements. Teaser after teaser, the hype continues to rise. “A night not to be missed“ even the official Game Awards account predicts. Should we expect revelations that will shake up the industry? While some are hoping to discover the new Nintendo Switch on this occasion, others are already imagining a new Xbox console.
The manufacturer has just shared a mysterious video on its networks and players are already getting excited. “Something small is approaching” can be read in a tweet accompanied by a video. This one presents a green comet in the shape of an X in a starry sky, while a deep voice pronounces the sentence of the post. But what could this little thing approaching be? Following Phil Spencer's recent comments about a possible portable platform from Xbox, it doesn't take much to get people dreaming of a new machine. But expectations will have to be lowered.
Something REALLY small
In the comments, the Xbox community is going crazy. Messages mentioning a portable console or a thinner console are multiplying. But one Xbox UK employee is determined to put an end to the wild rumors. “This announcement has nothing to do with see with hardware” he repeats under numerous tweets. We must therefore face the facts: the Redmond firm is not going to present a new console at the Game Awards. Now that this has been clarified, another question arises: why this teaser and what is it really hiding?
Let's first note that only Xbox UK accounts shared this video on the networks. The presence of #ScoreMoreWithXbox in the message – literally “score more with Xbox” – can also refer to a multitude of things. Is this a partnership with an English football team? A special offer reserved for UK stores in the run-up to the end-of-year holidays?
Other theories suggest the inclusion of achievements for games from the original Xbox, which would explain the “score more with Xbox“. But the local nature of this announcement, presumably reserved for the UK, suggests something rather insignificant for gamers everywhere. Too bad, we would have liked to discover a PC console to take everywhere.
