2025 Taxes: Here are the deadlines for this year's declarations

Every spring, it's the same thing. Like millions of French people, you're probably getting ready to declare your income for the previous year. This year, the tax campaign officially begins on Thursday, April 10, 2025. Whether you're taxable or not, filing is mandatory.

Deadlines to remember

The deadlines for declaring your income vary depending on your department of residence and the declaration method chosen. For online declarations, you have until Thursday, May 22, 2025 for departments 01 to 19 and non-resident users, and until Thursday, June 5, 2025 for departments 55 to 976 (Mayotte included).

For the paper declaration, there is a single date that will be common to all departments: May 20, 2025. If you opt for the paper format, the forms will be sent between March 28 and April 24. Make sure you respect these deadlines to avoid penalties.

Automatic declaration

Since 2020, certain taxpayers have benefited from automatic declaration. This system simplifies the process by exempting users from filing a declaration, provided that their situation has not changed since the previous year. To be eligible, you must have been taxed only on income pre-filled by the tax authorities in 2024, without any change in circumstances (birth, marriage, move). If you are concerned, simply check the pre-filled information in your personal space on the tax website, validate it and sign.

How to declare your income?

The official tax website (impots.gouv.fr) will be accessible from April 10. Log in to your personal space to check or complete the pre-filled information. If you do not have internet access, the forms must be submitted or sent before May 20, postmarked as proof.

Beware of penalties if you miss the deadlines: you will be subject to a 10% increase from the first day of delay, then 20% if you declare within 30 days following a formal notice, and 40% beyond of these 30 days. Late payment interest is also added at the rate of 0.20% per month, or 2.4% per year, until your declaration is actually filed.

To avoid unpleasant surprises, plan ahead: start your declaration as soon as the online service opens to avoid delays or periods of congestion. Gather all your supporting documents (salaries, pensions, property income, etc.) to facilitate your declarations, and correct any errors if you notice an inaccuracy after having validated your declaration. It will be possible to modify it up until the deadline. Don't forget to fill in the new mandatory boxes, and to declare cryptocurrencies and foreign bank accounts.
