Apple sued for false advertising, Siri is less intelligent than advertised

Apple is facing several class-action lawsuits for false advertising. The cause: improvements to Siri with Apple Intelligence, announced but still unavailable. Two countries are taking the company to court.

Apple sued for false advertising, Siri is less intelligent than advertised

Siri, why haven't you upgraded to version 2.0 yet?“. The smart assistant on the iPhone will have a hard time answer this question without embarrassing its designers. Since the announcement of Apple Intelligence in 2024, everyone has been eagerly awaiting the improvements presented by the brand with the bitten apple. In France, we had to wait until February 2025 to finally try out the new AI in a truncated version. And for once, it's no better on American soil.

While iOS 18.4, already available at the time of writing, was supposed to offer a complete experience, Apple has announced that Siri 2.0 will be delayed. There are clearly major technical issues causing the assistant to make errors in 20 to 35% of cases. Far too many for a global launch. When will we get the new version of the AI then? The Cupertino company isn't saying, and experts are pessimistic: some are counting on 2026, not before. In the meantime, anger is brewing among iPhone owners.

Apple allegedly misled users by announcing Siri improvements that have still not been rolled out

Several people bought an iPhone 16 thinking they could take advantage of Siri's advances enabled by Apple Intelligence. Feeling deceived, some decided to sue Apple for false advertising in California.

Two named plaintiffs say they would never have paid the bill knowing there would be such a delay in the promised features. It must be said that Apple has not skimped on marketing at this level. Since then, the manufacturer has removed several advertisements and added footnotes to others to dampen enthusiasm.

Remember that the company Apple is already facing similar lawsuits in California, which could merge with the new one, and in Canada. The US neighbor launched a class action lawsuit at the end of March. If the judgment is in their favor, the plaintiffs would be entitled to compensation from Apple. The amount will be determined during the trials.
