Baldur's Gate 3 recently finally received the massive Patch 8, which unfortunately marks the end of Larian Studios' support for major updates. Shortly after that, the studio made an announcement that may add salt to the wound for console players, who will ultimately not have the same freedoms as PC players to radically transform their adventures in the Forgotten Realms.
Creativity Limited on console versions of Baldur's Gate 3
Thanks to Patch 7 introduced in September 2024, console players were finally able to mod Baldur's Gate 3, aligning themselves with the PC version of Larian Studios' masterpiece. Even if the process was more complicated, they had the opportunity to add a little spice to their adventures with creations from talented fans. Unfortunately, however, it seems that modding on consoles has its limits.
In an official post on the game's forums, Larian Studios announced some rather sad news: it will not be possible to enjoy mods adding new playable races on consoles. Along with other classes, including new ones introduced with Patch 8, choosing your avatar's race is one of the other exciting elements of the game, which can radically change the way we enjoy Baldur's Gate 3.
However, we will have to do without it on consoles. The studio has indeed explained that the release of Patch 8 led to an update of the Toolkit for the creation of mods, and these platforms apparently do not have the " technical requirements " to support the addition of new races in the game. So, the possibility to embody a Tabaxi (cat-like humanoid), a devil, or even a kobold, among other crazy possibilities born from the overflowing imagination of modders. That being said, most of the other excellent mods available on the PC version of Baldur's Gate 3 should sooner or later also arrive on consoles. The glass half full, as they say.
