Daredevil Born Again: The 10 Best Moments of Season 1

Daredevil Born Again: The 10 Best Moments of Season 1

Season 1 of Daredevil: Born Again has just concluded on Disney+. Given the show's undeniable quality, we wanted to revisit the series' best moments. Here are our 10 favorite things about Daredevil: Born Again. SPOILER ALERT!

Daredevil Born Again: The 10 Best Moments of Season 1

10) The Bank Robbery Episode

Daredevil Born Again: The 10 Best Moments of Season 1

We didn't expect to see an episode like this in Daredevil: Born Again. Episode 5, titled Damages, takes place almost entirely in a bank. Matt Murdock goes to a bank to apply for a loan for his law firm. For the occasion, he meets Yussuf Khan, the father of Miss Marvel, still played by Mohan Kapur. It's an interesting episode because it takes place outside the continuity of the series. A little treat independent of the rest, it's a chapter that has no impact on the rest of the series, and that's also why we appreciate it. It's a method that reconnects with the series of yesteryear, like the episode of The Fly in Breaking Bad. A side episode, and yet perfectly mastered. A great find from showrunners Matt Corman and Chris Ord.

9) Continuity with Marvel’s Daredevil

Daredevil Born Again: The 10 Best Moments of Season 1

We were very afraid that Daredevil: Born Again would be a series sanitized by the MCU. We were worried about seeing the excellent series Marvel’s Daredevil being stripped of its identity to fit the mainstream standards of the MCU. But from the very first episode, Matt Corman and Chris Ord immediately reassured us. Daredevil: Born Again is a dark, violent, and somber series that is completely in line with Marvel’s Daredevil, whether thematically, aesthetically, or in its treatment of the character and graphic violence. Even the superb original music is back. Quite simply, it’s perhaps even the best piece of the four seasons thanks to its tighter plot.

8) The Murder of Commissioner Gallo

Daredevil Born Again: The 10 Best Moments of Season 1

Played by Michael Gaston, we quickly appreciated this character. An exemplary police officer, full of self-sacrifice, he quickly sided against Wilson Fisk and his tyrannical methods. A moral integrity that, as one might expect, would bring him problems. As Commissioner Gallo begins to work in the shadows to overthrow the Kingpin towards the end of the series, he is betrayed by Sheila Rivera, an assistant to Fisk. The Kingpin, dissatisfied with Gallo's political ideas, simply decides to assassinate him without further ado. A particularly gory and visual kill, which recalls the Kingpin's wickedness and immense strength.

7) Muse

Daredevil Born Again: The 10 Best Moments of Season 1

Frankly, we didn't expect to see such a dark villain in Daredevil: Born Again. A particularly unhinged supervillain from the Daredevil universe, Muse is a brainless psychopath who paints murals with the blood of his victims. Initially presented as a backdrop (no pun intended), Muse gradually gains importance within the series. It's even him who pushes Matt Murdock to don Daredevil's mask again to intervene and stop his murderous madness. And frankly, the final fight between the two characters is far from dishonorable.

6) The ball scene

Bullseye, who escapes and wants to assassinate The Kingpin. Wilson Fisk who threatens all his political opponents. Matt Murdock and Heather Glenn who see their political beliefs diverge. Surprising revelations about Vanessa. Political conspiracies in the shadows between different secondary protagonists like BB Ulrich. And Matt Murdock who sacrifices himself to save his worst enemy. All this through a breezy and exciting staging. What a great episode!

5) The fight scene with Punisher

Daredevil Born Again: The 10 Best Moments of Season 1

We were eager to see Jon Bernthal as the Punisher again. It's done! Frank Castle is back in two episodes during Daredevil: Born Again. But it's obviously the final episode that interests us here. Because seeing the Punisher kill his attackers without an ounce of remorse and seeing Matt and Frank fight side by side is clearly priceless!

4) The final sequence of the series

Daredevil Born Again: The 10 Best Moments of Season 1

Daredevil, wounded, hesitates to confront the Kingpin directly. Karen Page manages to dissuade him. To the excellent music Everything in its right place by Radiohead, Matt Murdock, in voiceover, delivers a superhero speech the likes of which we haven't heard in a long time. The vigilante talks about the future, hope, and promises to build a real army to fight against The Kingpin. The chills are there and we can't wait to see season 2. What a finale!

3) The conversation between The Kingpin and Matt Murdock

In the first episode of Daredevil: Born Again, as Wilson Fisk prepares to become Mayor of New York, Matt and Wilson meet in a restaurant. The two enemies meet for a fascinating discussion. An opportunity to develop the relationship that unites them. Almost like old friends that life has separated, they discuss their past and their future, with smiles on their faces. A sequence full of emotion, during which we almost have the feeling that the two protagonists appreciate each other. For a moment, we even hope that they will join forces to make New York a better city. A crazy sequence, especially thanks to the performances of the two actors.

2) Vincent d’Onofrio

Daredevil Born Again: The 10 Best Moments of Season 1

What a genius this Vincent d’Onofrio is! He is still as perfect as the Kingpin. Already impressive in Marvel’s Daredevil he has lost none of his brilliance. He embodies an anthology villain and delivers an absolutely memorable performance. Classy, impressive, disturbing, intelligent, he is a complex character and Vincent d'Onofrio manages to give him all the depth necessary to bring him to life. A masterful performance, somewhere between self-control and madness. Never appeased, the character always seems on the verge of exploding, and that's what makes him so strong and mesmerizing. We hope that Vincent d'Onofrio will embody this character until the end of his days.

1) The fight between Daredevil and Bullseye

From the first episode, the color is set when Bullseye murders Foggy Nelson in cold blood. A violent murder that pushes Matt Murdock to his limits. The kind lawyer dons his Devil of Hell's Kitchen costume. What follows is an impressive fight sequence, filmed in a single take, between the two characters. It's ultra violent, beautifully staged, filmed with fluidity, always understandable, and what an impact on the viewer! We've rarely seen Daredevil so dark. A mind-blowing introduction that lays the foundations for a tortured and dark series, just like this iconic character from The House of Ideas.
