Dragon Ball: 8 Times Humans Stole the Show in the Anime

Dragon Ball: 8 Times Humans Stole the Show in the Anime

In Dragon Ball, it's often all about aliens. With a Saiyan protagonist, it's hard not to. However, humans have also had their moments of glory, as can be seen during these eight occasions.

#1 Krillin stood up to Frieza 2nd form

Dragon Ball: 8 Times Humans Stole the Show in the Anime

Krillin's most iconic moment on Namek is unfortunately when he loses his life, however, in life he did much more than that. Against Frieza, it's clear he didn't stand a chance, as evidenced by the fact that he was impaled by the Galactic Emperor. However, the human also managed to make the villain break out in a cold sweat. As Frieza was about to finish off Gohan, Krillin threw a Kienzan at him that cut off his tail. The human then sent several of them at him, and the villain had to dodge them to avoid ending up in a puck. Krillin thus showed that he was capable of defeating a being as powerful as Frieza, or at least making him waste time. It's no coincidence that the villain copied his technique.

#2 Tenshinhan saved Dende from Super Buu

Dragon Ball: 8 Times Humans Stole the Show in the Anime

Tenshinhan is a very underrated character in Dragon Ball. A former enemy of Goku, he has become a fearless and blameless hero whose characteristic has always been to save his companions against villains much more powerful than him. This is what he does against Cell 2nd form, but also against Buutenks. In the latter case, he saved, thanks to his Kikôhô, Dende who was healing Gohan. Although it was minimal, without this intervention, the ending of Dragon Ball would have been very different. The Buu arc is about Mr. Satan. He, who pretended to be a puppet against Cell, turned out to be, years later, and this time legitimately, the savior of the universe. It began when he took a liking to Buu, the pink ball having become his most loyal sidekick. This importance in the plot continued and concluded when he asked the earthlings to give their energy to defeat Kid Buu with a Genkidama. Without that, Goku would never have been able to defeat him, so thank you, Mr. Satan.

#4 Yamcha has shown he's a great martial artist

Dragon Ball: 8 Times Humans Stole the Show in the Anime

Yamcha has always had a thankless role in Dragon Ball. Not respected by his opponents, he's not respected by the spectators either. Yet, Yamcha remains an exceptional fighter. He showed it against Kami during the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai. The confrontation turns the hero into a fool, except for one moment. Yamcha reveals to everyone his new technique: the Sôkidan. Thanks to his fingers, he can control a ball of ki, and it hits the mark, Kami taking it head-on. This won't win Yamcha, but he has earned his opponent's respect. The human still created a technique on his own, which is uncommon in Dragon Ball, and for that alone he deserves to be considered a great martial artist.

#5 Krillin Protected His Friends From Super Buu

During the Buu arc, Krillin is a family man and has stayed away from fighting. However, when it comes to protecting his friends, he is the first to go to the front. This is the case when Super Buu arrives in the Palace of God. Goku's friend performs a unique act of bravery here by charging at the villain to allow his loved ones to escape. Few would have dared to do it, but he didn't hesitate at all. #6 Tenshinhan uses the Mafûba

Winner of the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai, Tenshinhan is one of the most powerful fighters in Dragon Ball when Piccolo Daimao appears. Even though he doesn't have the strength to defeat him, he quickly becomes Goku's last ally. Worse, when he confronts Drum and Piccolo Daimao, Tenshinhan believes he is the last hope. In an anime-exclusive sequence, he uses the Mafûba to defeat the demon. If it weren't for Drum's intervention, Piccolo Daimao might well have been imprisoned again. Despite this failure, Tenshinhan once again demonstrated his courage, but also his extraordinary ability to learn a technique, as he already proved by performing the Kamehameha.

#7 Tao Pai Pai defeated Goku

Dragon Ball: 8 Times Humans Stole the Show in the Anime

It wasn't just the kind humans who shone in Dragon Ball. Among Goku's defeats, one of the most stinging was against Tao Pai Pai. The hitman not only defeated the hero, but left him in a pitiful state. Indeed, without his 4-star Dragon Ball, Goku would no longer have been part of this world.

#8 The fight against Nappa

Dragon Ball: 8 Times Humans Stole the Show in the Anime

The confrontation against Nappa is one of the greatest and most terrible moments for humans. Whether against the Saiyan or the Saibamen, they all shone, but also suffered a tragic fate. Yamcha easily defeated a Saibaman, but was tricked. Chaozu sacrificed himself for nothing. Tenshinhan went for broke, losing his life in the process. Krillin showed his power against the Saibamen, and could have defeated Nappa without Vegeta's help, but was generally powerless against the Saiyan. It remains a defining moment when humans proved that, even though they were outmatched in terms of power, they could still deliver powerful emotions.
