Finally! Instagram is reportedly working on an iPad app

A small miracle, that's the only possible explanation: Meta is indeed working on a dedicated iPad version of the Instagram app. Since its launch in 2010, the social network has always refused to support Apple's tablet, for which users have to make do with the iPhone version. In other words, a postage stamp in the middle of the iPad screen, or an artificially enlarged interface. In either case, it's not great for a platform based on photos and videos.

An iPad app, 14 years later

According to a leak from The Information, development of an iPad app is underway. Let's not get carried away, rumors have regularly announced a version dedicated to the iPad, but there are reasons to be optimistic this time. Because Instagram wants to capitalize on TikTok's difficulties in the United States, and address A greater number of people with an optimized experience is part of the project.

Adam Mosseri, the boss of Instagram, explained to his teams last week that the social network needed to be more adventurous and take more risks to take advantage of the situation. The app has never hesitated to shamelessly copying the innovations of its competitors, giving all the space to videos, changing the size of photos and videos (vertical rather than square), extending the length of Reels videos from 90 seconds to 3 minutes...

There is also talk of launching an app entirely dedicated to Reels. Instagram also recently launched Edits, a video editing application directly rivaling CapCut, owned by ByteDance — which also owns TikTok — which is threatened with extinction in the United States.

Last Friday, TikTok obtained a new 75-day reprieve to find a buyer for its American operations. While negotiations continue behind the scenes, China clearly has no intention of giving in on anything, and it's not going to get any better with the ongoing tariff war.
