Another code to connect to impots.gouv.fr? While the income tax declaration period began on Thursday, April 10, note that starting this summer, to connect to your personal space on the platform, you will need to use a double authentication system. On its website, the General Directorate of Public Finances (DGFiP) specified what the future process will consist of.
Once you have entered your 13-digit tax number and the associated password, the tax authorities will send you a security code to your email address, which you will need to enter, 6 or 8 digits long – it will only be valid for a few minutes. The objective here is to strengthen the security of access to your personal space and to align with what already exists in the banking sector. The code will only be valid for one connection, and it will be necessary to each time repeat the operation as soon as you wish to go to your personal account.
An alternative to the code sent by email: France Connect
Instead of this procedure, you can also go through France Connect, if you have an active account with France Identité, Health Insurance, or La Poste digital identity. While waiting for this double authentication to be implemented, be sure to update your email address. The Tax Office also recommends adding your mobile phone number to your profile, in your personal space.
This number will then be used if you wish to change your bank details, password, or if you wish to recover your tax number. You will then receive "a validation code by SMS. Entering this code will ensure that you are the author of the request", explains the General Directorate of Public Finances.
Beware of current fraudulent SMS campaigns
Also be vigilant for SMS messages that take advantage of this tax return period to ask you to regularize your situation, or to alert you to a possible "problem" related to your tax return or your tax assessment, link to support.
On its site, the platform warns in particular about a “fraudulent SMS campaign (…) with the following fraudulent content: “[Taxes. gouv] Crypto transactions have been detected on your accounts. Report them to avoid a 40% increase””. The tax administration invites you not to respond to these messages.
Generally speaking, do not click on links contained in this type of SMS, which may lead you to sites that closely resemble the official impots.gouv.fr website. The scammers' goal is to retrieve your tax ID and other personal data – such as your banking details.
