Back in June, the weather was nice and warm, summer was approaching, and Apple was holding its WWDC, as it does every year. The conference, held at Apple Park at the brand's headquarters in California, presented the year's major software releases. Vice presidents took turns speaking, all of them talking about their respective sectors.
But that day, the floor wasn't distributed equally. John Giannandrea monopolized the presentation. It must be said that the person responsible for developing artificial intelligence at Apple had some things to say. It actually gives us a glimpse of a "revolution": Apple Intelligence.
The feature, compatible with the iPhone 15 Pro, Pro Max, and iPhone 16 only, should mark a before-and-after in Apple's history. According to journalist Mark Gurman, a specialist in the brand, it is the "most important software update in Apple's history, all devices combined."
Despite rave reviews and iPhone 16 sales largely linked to This feature will take months for Apple Intelligence to arrive on our smartphones. Which brings us to April 1, 2025. We are almost a year after WWDC and the famous presentation of Apple Intelligence.
The service has just arrived in Europe. After months of discussions, notably with the European Commission, Apple is launching iOS 18.4 and Apple Intelligence in France and on the old continent. But be careful, you won't be able to ask for your mother's flight time, as in the use case Apple provided last June.
The feature is still in its early stages, and it's not expected to develop very quickly. Improvements to Siri and the integration of AI across all aspects of the iPhone aren't expected to see the light of day before 2026. So, you'll have to be patient, and until then, make do with the few features already available.
Apple has notably launched Image Playground, an application for creating images, a fairly classic generator in the end. Genmoji is also available. It's based on the same model, except that it only produces emojis. From a prompt, it can "mix" several emojis together. A fun little feature, but once the first five minutes of use are over, enthusiasm wanes.
All that for?
Since last summer, Apple Intelligence has been everywhere. The Cupertino company describes these latest products as "designed for Apple Intelligence." But the feature is still pending. So, in the meantime, iOS 18.4 brings other features. In addition to the two new apps we just saw, intelligent notification sorting is coming.
Apple talked at length about this feature last June. Specifically, it should bring you the most urgent messages to get your full attention. In the example taken from At the time, a message asking if you want to go out to dinner tonight will be at the top of the notification pile, ahead of more recent emails that don't require an immediate response.
Other features?
In addition to these three key points for Apple, other features are arriving with iOS 18.4. The most interesting, according to our initial feedback, is the magic eraser within the Photos app. You won't use it every day, but it's a real plus in the experience.
Another interesting option is the addition of an "article summary" option. This allows you to paraphrase the words of an article in a few words, to make a succinct summary.
