From the Lenovo Legion Go to the ROG Ally X, including various Ayaneo models, the majority of portable consoles launched on the market in recent months are based on an AMD Ryzen Z1 platform. MSI, however, has made a diametrically opposed choice by deciding to use exclusively an Intel processor at the heart of its Claw portable consoles. The first version used a Meteor Lake chip, while the Claw 7 AI+ and Claw 8 AI+ launched at the end of last year benefit from a more powerful Core Ultra 7 258V “Lunar Lake” processor.

The commercial success of these different models does not seem to be sufficient, however: MSI is reportedly considering changing its approach for its next Claw, giving in to the charms of AMD. While this information remains to be confirmed, it would still mean that the manufacturer would prefer to use the Ryzen Z2 platform unveiled at the beginning of the year by AMD, more precisely a Ryzen Z2 AI Extreme equipped with an integrated NPU, rather than an Intel Panther Lake processor expected for the second quarter of 2025.
MSI could also choose to launch several versions of its future console, equipped depending on the case with an AMD or Intel solution, but this possibility remains somewhat credible: in addition to production being made more complex to meet the specific needs of both platforms, it is highly likely that the two processor manufacturers will each require an exclusivity contract to supply MSI with processors at a reasonable price.
