Since the announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2, gamers have been growing concerned about its price, and the overall amount that will have to be invested in this rather resource-intensive new ecosystem. While physical and digital games are backward compatible, you'll still have to shell out a few bucks to get accessories and titles optimized for the console.
But what about amiibo? It's been three weeks already, and Nintendo hasn't given any news about this very special feature, which will follow players from one generation to the next. the other. Since premium games (like Mario Kart) are going from 59.99 euros to 89.99 euros, and the console itself is priced close to the PS5, it's legitimate to wonder if amiibo will also experience inflation. We have a first element of an answer thanks to the upcoming American releases.
10 dollars more for each figurine
Indeed, Nintendo recently announced two sets of new amiibo figures, inspired by Street Fighter 6 and The Legend of Zelda. For the first franchise, we find the three characters Luke, Jamie, and Kimberly, while for the second, four amiibo are offered in the image of Riju, Sidon, Yunobo, and Tulin. Usually priced at $29.99 (Street Fighter 6) and $19.99 (Zelda), the accessories are now $10 more expensive each on the sites of certain retailers.
Walmart, Best Buy and Gamestop offer them at $39.99 for the SF6 figures and $29.99 for the Zelda ones. Suffice it to say that to get the complete collection, you'll have to spend around $240. For the moment, it's unclear whether this price increase will also be effective in France, and if so, how much more we'll have to spend to compensate for our higher taxes. We can already expect a bill exceeding 250 euros.
Will Nintendo confirm the price increase?
It's also unclear whether this price increase is an individual move by retailers or if it will be the new pricing standard. It seems unlikely that the cheapest stores will in the United States have made the decision to raise prices on their own, but nothing has been confirmed by Nintendo yet. We will therefore have to wait for an official communication from the manufacturer, or for the amiibo to be pre-ordered, to be sure of their prices.
