Nintendo Switch 2: Good news for the pro controller

Nintendo Switch 2: Good news for the pro controller

During the Nintendo Direct that revealed the Switch 2's technical specifications, the company also presented all the accessories that will accompany this historic launch. In addition to a camera and new SD card models, Nintendo shared a new version of its Pro Controller.

While visually, the accessory isn't that different from its predecessor, there is a major technical improvement inside. Indeed, its charging time has been cut in half compared to the first Pro Controller model. The controller's battery has a capacity of 1070 mAh, going from 0 to 100% in just 3.5 hours. The older controller currently on the market has a capacity of 1300 mAh, and a slower charging speed, since the battery goes from 0 to 100% in 6 hours.

However, this does not affect the battery life, which remains at around forty hours. To achieve this result, you should not use just any charger. On the technical sheet of the pro controller, it is written:

The second improvement, and not the least, concerns the weight of the controller. Indeed, the smaller battery means a weight loss that can be significant depending on your sensitivity. It goes to 235g compared to 246g for the previous model.

Will the Switch 2 controller be compatible with the Switch 1?

After presenting its many advantages, and its improvements compared to the previous model, the Nintendo Switch 2 pro controller is catching our eye. But many are those who will not give in to The new console's appeal from its launch for fear of over-investing. The question then becomes: will you be able to buy and use the Switch Pro Controller 2 on your current Nintendo Switch?

In terms of compatibility, there are no official restrictions. The controller uses a USB-C port, just like the previous generation. The charger is unlikely to be different from the current one, and the connectors remain exactly the same. The Switch 2 Pro Controller features the same technologies (Bluetooth, NFC, gyroscope, accelerometer) as the old one, so there's nothing you'll have to miss out on when using it on an older console, except for the community hub.
