PS Plus prices increase again, it doesn't look good for the French

This isn't the first time Sony has raised its prices. Back in 2023, PS Plus saw a series of price increases in several countries. The PS5, too, saw its price increase in certain regions of the world. Just a few days ago, similar increases were reported in South America, as well as Australia and Asia. This time, it's another country's turn to be affected.

Another price increase for PS Plus

Unpleasant surprise for Canadian gamers. Sony has just increased the prices of its PS Plus subscriptions. An increase that is difficult to accept, especially in the absence of a clear explanation. And which once again reignites the debate on the real value of the service.

For a few days now, the new prices have been visible on the Canadian PlayStation Store. And it goes without saying that they are climbing:

  • Essential goes from $94.99 to CAD $109.99 per year
  • Extra goes from $154.99 to CAD $189.99
  • Premium goes from $189.99 to CAD $224.99

In short, this represents an increase of 15 to 23% depending on the chosen formula. The PS Plus Extra tier, although the most popular thanks to its extensive game catalog and Ubisoft+ Classics, is the one that takes the biggest hit.

A communication in stealth mode, soon France?

No official announcement. No tweet. No video. Sony has contented itself with an update silent update of the site and an email sent to affected PS Plus subscribers. A message that remains very vague: this increase is supposed to "continue to offer quality games" and to "improve the benefits of the service". But in fact, nothing concrete has been announced to justify this new pricing structure. No major new features. No additional games. Not even a word about cloud performance or the arrival of new retro classics.

Obviously, with countries like Canada and Australia already affected, we can start to ask questions for Europe, and especially for France. Clearly, things don't look good, and many players feel that their turn could come soon. We must therefore expect the worst for PS Plus.
