After the end of software support for the Galaxy S20, which we told you about yesterday, we learned today that Samsung is also permanently stopping software support for its Galaxy A32, A52, and A72. In total, five of the brand's iconic smartphones are bowing out.
End of software updates for three Samsung Galaxy A
It's official, the Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra are leaving the update program after five years of service. Smartphones that had embodied Samsung's rise to power, with innovations like Space Zoom, 120Hz AMOLED displays, and 5G compatibility. Their removal not only means the end of security updates, but also the end of any software development.
On the mid-range side, the Galaxy A32, A52, and A72 are also losing their software support, after about four years of regular updates. The Galaxy A52 is a bit unusual: only the Enterprise Edition of the A52 5G is affected this time, as the regular editions had already been unsupported for several months. The enterprise-grade A52 and A52s variants, however, continue to receive patches for now.
Consider a replacement solution
For users of these models, the end of support does not mean an immediate cessation of operation, but an increased risk of security breaches in the future. Samsung could still deploy a final update update in the works, but there will be no more monthly patches or performance improvements coming.
Samsung's message to users of these models is therefore quite clear: move on. To take advantage of the latest security updates, but also the new software features of One UI 7, it may be time to choose a more recent smartphone like the Galaxy S25 or the Galaxy A56, to name a few. It remains to be seen whether this forced transition will be well accepted by users who tend to keep their smartphone longer and longer.
