Star Wars fans first met Ahmed Best in 1999's Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace as Jar Jar Binks. Invited to Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo, the actor who appeared in The Mandalorian series revealed what happened to his character, Kelleran Beq, the Jedi who saves Grogu from Order 66.
After Jar Jar Binks, Ahmed Best plays Kelleran Beq in Star Wars
It was in 1999 that audiences discovered Ahmed Best who played the famous Gungan Jar Jar Binks in The Phantom Menace. The actor would reprise his role in the next two installments of the prequel series. Then, Star Wars fans were surprised to see him make an appearance in the live-action series The Mandalorian on Disney+. Indeed, it was in the episode titled Chapter 20: The Foundling of season 3 that we discovered that it was his character, Jedi Knight Kelleran Beq, who saved Grogu from Order 66 launched by Emperor Palpatine. Fans will only see the character once in The Mandalorian to take Grogu away from Coruscant for safekeeping.
In June 2020, Ahmed Best hosted the children's online game show, Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge. It was in this program that the actor appeared as Beq to present the show in which young competitors compete in a series of obstacles.
What happened to the Jedi Kelleran Beq after Grogu's rescue?
Invited to Star Wars Celebration 2025, Ahmed Best told our colleagues at ComicBook that he was always ready to don his Jedi Knight costume and that he really hopes that it will be the case one day because "it was really fun to do". He also explained that his performance in The Mandalorian was "only a tenth of a percent of what I can do".
Finally, still for the American media, Best reveals what Kelleran Beq became after putting Grogu Shelter:
Kelleran Beq wants to become a teacher. It's his calling. And even though he's one of the most fearsome Jedi to ever don the robe, his passion is raising Jedi. So I'd like to explore this idea of teachers as superheroes and really address what it means to be a Jedi and train new ones.
One theory about Beq's fate suggested that the Jedi fell into Vader's hands when he tried to protect Grogu, but it's unclear if the Sith Lord killed him. To learn more about Kelleran Beq, the comic Star Wars: Jedi Knights, released last March in the USA, focuses on the character's history.
