Taboo: This news will delight fans of the series with Tom Hardy

Over the decades, the United Kingdom has managed to establish itself as an impressive breeding ground for series. After several years of waiting, one of the most exciting British series of the 2010s is making its big comeback. We're telling you all about it!

The return of a cult series with Tom Hardy

The 2010s were undoubtedly a true consecration for the British small screen. While the UK was able to establish itself in pop culture early on with series like Doctor Who, the previous decade saw its audience grow considerably, thanks to such exciting showrunners as Steven Moffat (Doctor Who, Sherlock), Dennis Kelly (Utopia, The Third Day) and Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders). The latter has also revealed himself as a true jack-of-all-trades, multiplying the most ambitious projects with varying degrees of success. From the crime epic Peaky Blinders to post-apocalyptic science fiction with See, via the North African Campaign between 1940 and 1943 in S.A.S: Rogue Heroes and adaptations of Charles Dickens' novels, Steven Knight is everywhere!

One of his biggest successes remains the series Taboo, co-produced by the BBC, director Ridley Scott and actor Tom Hardy, and written from a script by the latter's father. The series, broadcast on BBC One in 2017, follows the story of James Delaney, who returns with a few diamonds in his pocket to London in 1814, when everyone thought he had disappeared. Eager to claim his father's inheritance, James finds himself at the crossroads of the interests of the British Crown, the East India Company, and the United States of America. But this tormented and brutal man has no intention of letting himself be dispossessed!

Praised for its artistic direction, its clever writing and the performances of its cast, starting with the gigantic Tom Hardy, Taboo is a very popular series. While Knight and Hardy announced very early on that a season 2 was planned, we haven't had any news since; to the point that one could believe that the project was definitively abandoned, like so many others before them. (It is also considered "canceled" by AlloCiné.) It must be said that Steven Knight and Tom Hardy are two very busy men; While the former is currently working on the film Peaky Blinders and his planned series about the Guiness family in Ireland, the latter was the face of the Venom trilogy for Sony Pictures.

While promoting Guy Ritchie's series MobLand and Gareth Evans' film Havoc, Tom Hardy gave an interview to the media MovieWeb and took the opportunity to announce the news that all Taboo fans were dying to hear: "We're writing [the second season] right now." Note that Tom Hardy took advantage of the interview to reveal that he would love English actor Paddy Considine, known in particular for his role as Viserys I Targaryen in the first season of House of the Dragon, will participate in the project. Excellent news, then, even if we will probably have to wait a little longer before discovering the continuation of James Delaney's adventures.

Season 2 of Taboo should likely be very different from the first. As a reminder, at the end of season 1, James and his friends left London and headed to the United States of America. If you want to discover or rewatch Taboo, the series is available for purchase and rental on various video-on-demand platforms (CanalVOD, Orange and Apple); Unfortunately, it's not available on any SVOD. However, if you enjoy British series, we highly recommend this new Netflix hit that everyone's talking about!
