Despite the extensive work Bethesda has put into this remaster of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, players are still seeing numerous issues, unfortunately adding to the overall picture. Bugs galore, archaic mechanics, and frustrating gameplay—the modding community has worked to create over 200 mods since the title's release on April 22nd. A real undermining job to improve the experience of players, eager to immerse themselves in this cult title originally released in 2006.
6 mods to download to improve your adventure
For a week now, both nostalgic and novices of the license can play The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The remaster is part of the Game Pass catalog on Xbox Series, and is available on PS5 and PC. While waiting for the big project of The Elder Scrolls VI, Bethesda is trying to bring back to life one of the best installments of the franchise and to spark nostalgia in millions of players with an opus polished with Unreal Engine 5, in addition to some improvements made to a game with aging mechanics. But behind this remaster paved with good intentions, the weight of the years is still felt. Improvable AI, stiff animations, an archaic combat system, countless bugs (some of which literally block quests), popping, and long loading times—the copy is not without its flaws.
So those who opted for keyboard and mouse can improve their adventure thanks to mods developed by a still-active community. We've selected six to install, in order to improve the game's performance, make it more enjoyable, or modify sometimes frustrating mechanics. We recommend going to the Nexus Mods website to install them.
#6 The French voice
French players have been waiting for it. Here it is. The French voiceover is finally available for download. This work was done thanks to Frenchy Oblivion. The team announced that they have worked on the majority of the content. While the French version still needs to be fine-tuned for certain quests and a few NPCs, 80% of the voices are dubbed to date. Frenchy Oblivion reveals that all lines of dialogue will soon be transcribed in French. "The goal is to achieve a 100% complete French version. Don't worry about any glitches (some synchronization issues), they will be corrected quickly." the team specifies.
#5 Ultimate Engine Tweaks
Console gamers are tearing their hair out. PC gamers are too, despite some ultra-high-performance machines. Bugs, texture popping, freezes, and other slowdowns can cannibalize the adventure in Cyrodiil. So the Ultimate Engine Tweaks mod is essential for navigating the game space with peace of mind. The most downloaded mod to date by 430,000 players, it improves performance and offers a smoother gaming experience by correcting most of the aforementioned bugs. In the comments, players already seem won over.
#4 Horse Whistle
While in more modern RPGs, pressing a key to call your horse is the norm, this wasn't necessarily the case in the precursor games. And Oblivion is one of them. Since Bethesda didn't patch its remaster, having to go and get your mount can seem very frustrating. The mod developed by PushTheWinButton (the name speaks for itself) allows you to teleport your horse in front of you, making movement and exploration smoother.
#3 Level Creature and Item Diversity / Unleveled Items Rewards
Two mods that combine here. The base game adapts to the player's level increases. The enemies do too. Having to deal with overly powerful skeletons when you've spent time leveling up and acquiring powerful equipment breaks the reward system, to the point of being experienced as a punishment. In addition, the items you collect by completing quests will not have the same stats depending on whether you get them at the beginning of the adventure or later in the game. A real frustration for those who want to congratulate themselves for getting the best equipment quickly. In response, Level Creature and Item Diversity prevents certain creatures from leveling up after a certain point, and Unleveled Items Rewards removes the need to upgrade weapons and armor, so they can be used to their full potential.

#2 Wealthy Vendors
In Oblivion, vendors only have a limited amount of gold to buy your hard-earned loot. As a result, the player must navigate the four corners of the map to find a merchant who can offer you a fair reward in coins, or risk having to sell off the goods. Wealthy Vendors then gives each merchant ten times more gold than they have (or alternatively 50,000 gold).

#1 A Painted World Remastered - Reshade Preset
Do you find Cyrodiil too reddish and its colors too warm, or even dull? The Mod A Painted World Remastered makes the Oblivion universe faithful to the original version, greener and more colorful. A modification to the lighting that will satisfy the most nostalgic.
