Oblivion: the announcement everyone was waiting for

The video game license The Elder Scrolls is one of the greatest fantasy sagas. It also holds a special place in the hearts of many fans. Launched in 1994 by Bethesda Softworks with The Elder Scrolls: Arena, it accompanied the two great fantasy rivals to the general public: in 2006, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was released in the wake of Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy (2001-2003) and the first Harry Potter films; In 2011, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was released the same year as the first season of Game of Thrones. Very comprehensive, this latest game is undoubtedly one of the most notable titles of the 2010s in the eyes of video game fans, as evidenced by the success of its numerous reissues.

While fans have been waiting since 2018 for news of The Elder Scrolls VI, a recent report dates back to 2028, Bethesda Softworks is reportedly working behind the scenes on a remaster of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, one of the most popular games in the franchise. A perfectly judicious choice since the video game now seems dated, due to the immense technical progress of new generations of consoles. At the heart of many rumors, the project has just been made official today by Bethesda: following the publication of several leaks, including the size of the game, the studio is giving its fans a date this Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at 5 PM (French time) on Twitch and YouTube, to reveal more details about the game.

For now, we still don't know the release date of this The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remaster or its price. Some experts speculate that the game could be an Xbox exclusive in order to boost Xbox Game Pass subscriptions. The title could be released later on PlayStation 5. In any case, this announcement seems like a great opportunity for Bethesda to remind its fan base the existence of the The Elder Scrolls license and thus prepare the ground for The Elder Scrolls VI. It should be remembered that the game will face strong competition, notably with the release of The Witcher IV from CD Projekt Red, whose first trailer was revealed at the last Game Awards ceremony. In the meantime, we'll have all our questions answered tomorrow. We can't wait!
