The end of Canal+ on TNT, you will have to quickly opt for a new reception mode!

The end of Canal+ on TNT, you will have to quickly opt for a new reception mode!

Canal+ cites several reasons for this radical change. First, the group cites increasingly high broadcasting costs and a regulatory framework deemed too restrictive. Another blow: Arcom's recent decision not to renew the authorization of the C8 channel on DTT has accelerated this withdrawal strategy. Finally, the group's international strategy, notably its ambition to be listed on the London Stock Exchange, is encouraging it to thoroughly review its economic priorities, leaving French TNT on the sidelines.

Concretely, what does this change?

The channels directly affected by this shutdown are:

  • Canal+
  • Canal+ Cinéma
  • Canal+ Sport
  • Planète+

To continue to enjoy it, subscribers will have to turn to an alternative solution. Don't panic, Canal+ supports its customers by offering several practical solutions:

  • Free exchange of the TNT decoder for an Internet or satellite compatible model.
  • Direct connection to Internet connection of the current decoder, if compatible.
  • Easy access via the myCANAL application on smartphone, tablet, computer or smart TV.

Canal+ now invites its affected subscribers to contact its customer service at 0801907601 to prepare for this transition without stress.

A TNT in full transformation

This departure is part of a broader overhaul of the French audiovisual landscape. Indeed, from June 6, 2025, the channels C8 and NRJ12 will also give up their places, replaced by two new arrivals: T18 and OFTV. A clear shift towards new content and formats adapted to the new digital habits of the French.

T18, initially known as RéelsTV, is a French national generalist channel that will begin broadcasting on June 6, 2025 on TNT channel 18. Owned by the CMI France group, headed by Czech billionaire Daniel Křetiacute;nský, T18 aims to offer an alternative to existing channels by emphasizing educational and positive content, promoting dialogue and argumentation rather than invective. The channel will broadcast in high definition (1080i) and will be accessible via DTT, satellite, cable and IPTV. Its slogan, "The TV that reaches out to you," reflects its ambition to be close to the public. T18 aims to offer programming focused on reality, mixing documentaries, debates and entertainment.

OFTV, also known as Novo 19, is a French national general channel supported by the SIPA Ouest-France press group. Scheduled for launch no later than September 1, 2025 on TNT channel 19, OFTV's mission is to reflect the diversity of French territories. With the slogan "Life, in real life," OFTV will highlight content rooted in the daily reality of the French, drawing on Ouest-France's network of journalists and collaborating with other regional media. The channel aims to: offer a varied program, including reports, documentaries, and local programs.

With the exit of Canal+ from TNT, a page is definitively turning in the history of the small screen in France. From now on, television will be consumed more than ever connected and on demand.
