The Mandalorian & Grogu: These 6 Star Wars Celebration Revelations to Remember

We warned you that big news would be revealed at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Japan, and it is indeed the case! Below, discover the six key takeaways from Disney / Lucasfilm's announcements regarding The Mandalorian & Grogu.

This isn't the first time (and it probably won't be the last) that Din Djarin, the character played by Pedro Pascal, has removed his iconic helmet on screen. With stunts and fights being provided by the actor's two stunt doubles, Brendan Wayne and Lateef Crowder, Pedro Pascal is generally content to lend his voice to the Mandalorian. Judging by the visual above, he will still be present in the film with his face uncovered, to the great delight of his fans.

#2 Back to the roots

The Mandalorian & Grogu: These 6 Star Wars Celebration Revelations to Remember

Like Star Wars in 1977,The Mandalorian & Grogu is inspired by the work of Akira Kurosawa, the famous Japanese director. Seven Samurai, Rashōmon, Yojimbo, The Spider's Castle... In the 50s and 60s, he made several films that have become references for moviegoers and filmmakers over the years. Jon Favreau was already inspired by Akira Kurosawa's filmography for the first three seasons of The Mandalorian, and he continues this tradition on the big screen. href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/StarWarsCelebration?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#StarWarsCelebration pic.twitter.com/rzB0KL3o7N

According to our colleagues at Screen Rant, footage shown at Star Wars Celebration 2025 confirms that Grogu will play a larger role in the plot:

The footage highlights Grogu's more active role in the film, including a glimpse of him swimming in water. In another segment, he's seen using the Force to dismantle a droid.

The little green being has grown up a lot since his debut on Disney+ in 2019, and he's finally going to have a bigger role in the plot.

#4 Jabba the Hutt's son arrives

Holy hell Rotta the Hutt is a fuckin' unit. #StarWarsCelebration pic.twitter.com/zmchtRV8Mj

Jeremy AllenWhite as the son of Jabba the Hutt? The rumors were wild, and they were true! After a first appearance in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the animated film by Dave Filoni released in 2008, Rotta will now be starring in The Mandalorian & Grogu. According to Screen Rant, "one of the scenes shown at the convention shows a Hutt present in an arena" (you can see it in the photo above). Rotta will be a gladiator with big biceps and six-packs, the opposite of Jabba...

#5 The release date has not changed

The Mandalorian and Grogu comes to theaters May 22, 2026. #StarWarsCelebration pic.twitter.com/Z7DRuvkG7M

So certainly, this information is not news, but it's still important to point out that the release date for The Mandalorian & Grogu is still set for May 20, 2026. This will be the next Star Wars film to hit theaters, and given the saga's slump, that's actually good news. Production apparently went off without a hitch (for once). A first trailer can therefore be expected by fans during the summer.

#6 Images of the Empire and the role of Sigourney Weaver

The short teaser shown at Star Wars Celebration 2025 shows Din Djarin aboard an AT-AT, fighting his way through the Empire, using its weapons, blowing up the armored transport, and take flight with Grogu. As for Sigourney Weaver, who is making the jump from the Avatar universe to Star Wars, she will be working for the New Republic. The footage shows her "talking to Din Djarin like a leader would an underling, implying that she is responsible for assigning Mandalorian missions against the galaxy's Imperial remnants." Plus, Din Djarin's ship, the Razor Crest, will be making a comeback!
