Star Wars Celebration definitely has some new things to devour. In addition to a few announcements about Shawn Levy's Star Wars film and The Mandalorian & Grogu, Lucasfilm also revealed the start of a new project centered around the famous Darth Maul. And clearly, we can't wait!
Darth Maul is back in the spotlight!
Like every year, the Star Wars Celebration was marked by many exciting announcements. Among this year's revelations, Lucasfilm confirmed the start of work on a new Star Wars film directed by Shawn Levy. In front of his camera, superstar Ryan Gosling will be there. A new project that will take place a few years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. It remains to be seen whether Daisy Ridley and the other actors from the postlogy will appear in this new opus. This new chapter is expected in 2027 in theaters.
The Star Wars Celebration also gave some new looks at the film The Mandalorian & Grogu, eagerly awaited by fans of the Jon Favreau series. A visual by Pedro Pascal has found its way online. As a reminder, the film, which will conclude the series, is still directed by Jon Favreau and is expected in theaters on May 26, 2026.
Among the other announced projects, Lucasfilm has confirmed the start of an animated series around the famous Darth Maul. Revealed during the Lucasfilm Animation conference at the Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, the series Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord is expected in 2026 on Disney+. Sam Witwer, who already dubbed the famous Sith in the series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels, will resume the voice of Darth Maul.
This new series will take place some time after the last season of The Clone Wars and will see how Darth Maul will form a new crime syndicate, far from the pressures of the Empire. The show is announced as a dark and violent proposition, more oriented for an initiated audience.
