The Nintendo Switch 2 has been eagerly awaited, and its major Nintendo Direct is likely to stay in people's minds for a while. Unfortunately, it won't be for the right reasons. While the machine is promising, as evidenced by our first impressions of the Nintendo Switch 2, there are still many unanswered questions, and Nintendo's decisions surrounding this release are clearly not to everyone's taste. What's most surprising is that the publisher is also contributing to... the end of physical games, he who was their fervent defender, it wasn't so long ago that.
Very bad news for Nintendo Switch 2 games
Yesterday, while fans were happy to see that the Nintendo Switch 2 still had some in the belly, including a very beautiful Mario Kart World, they unfortunately quickly became disillusioned. The reason? The pricing of the games is not going down well at all, fluctuating between 80 and 90 euros for exclusives in physical version. But where It really got out of hand when details were discovered shortly after, on the official support and then everywhere. It turns out that some physical games will not have the game at all. The cartridge would only be used to have the right to download it, which means that an internet connection will be required and without it, the cartridge is strictly for nothing at all.
A decision that causes a lot of reaction
It's hard to imagine how this is possible, especially since Nintendo has always been considered a defender of the physical format. The main target audience is also a big consumer, and the games almost never go down in price. Not content with driving up prices, we're now being told that some physical games will simply be empty. The anger of the players was not long in coming and the reactions are very, very numerous.
Some games like Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster or Street Fighter 6 have already been confirmed as being "physical games without games." Titles of this type will fortunately be marked with a message at the bottom of the box informing consumers that they will have to download the game once the cartridge is inserted. Physical games definitely put one foot further in the grave.
Just to calm things down a bit, it should be noted that this is not entirely new. The method has already been applied to Switch 1 games, like L.A Noire for example, without forgetting all the recent games that almost systematically require a day one patch to be played in good conditions.
