The fateful date is approaching for future buyers of an electric car. From May 1st, obtaining the mandatory registration document for the vehicle will cost much more than it does now.
À Not so long ago, it was very attractive to buy an electric car. The government offered numerous incentives to encourage the purchase of a clean vehicle, significantly reducing the final bill. But for some time now, there have been fewer and fewer of them.
It's quite simple: the budget for aid for the purchase of an electric car has been halved in 2025. And since bad news never comes alone, May 1, 2025 will be the start of a steep increase.
The price of the Wattures registration card will soar. As a reminder, it is currently exempt from a regional tax to which thermal cars are subject. In a few days, the same regime for everyone. No more registration certificate at 13.76 euros (11 euros plus 2.76 euros shipping).
Here are the new registration certificate prices for electric cars from May 1, 2025
It is important to talk about prices, not the price. While the basic registration certificate fee is the same everywhere, this is not the case for the fiscal horsepower (or fiscal CV) which will have to be added to it. Each region has its own, ranging from approximately 30 to 60 euros. In addition, all cars have a different number of fiscal CVs. You must therefore multiply the unit price to obtain the final price. Let's take the example of the Île-de-France region, where the tax CV is 54.95 euros.

From there, we can calculate that obtaining a registration document in this region for a Renault 5 E-tech with its 5 tax CV will cost 13.76 + 5 x 54.95, or 274.75 euros instead of 13.76 euros. The sum will exceed 300 euros elsewhere. The same goes for a Tesla Model Y (8 tax horsepower): its registration will cost you between 450 and 500 euros depending on your registration location. We are seeing increases of up to 3,400%. Future buyers will now have to take this expense into account before taking the plunge.
